In the recent days it was observed that all the dead engine movements are done by isolation of bogie COC to avoid any brake binding. Sometimes if the outgoing LP or shunter forget to open the bogie COC and moved dead engine , this may leads to a major disaster. If we follow the correct procedure of attaching dead engine we could avoid such instances.
Here is the correct step by step procedure of attaching dead engine in HHP loco.
1 First attach dead loco with working loco mechanically (coupling of CBC).
2. Drain all MR pressure in dead loco.
3. Open dead engine COC, and ensure 1.8 kg/cm2 pressure in MR gauge.
4. Partially open BCEQ and MREQ COC of dead engine in any one side.
5. Ensure brake application and release in dead engine by dropping BP pressure from leading working loco.
There are two types of dead engine COC in nose compartment . In CCB1.5 fitted lock there is dead engine coc, and in CCB 2.0 there is dead engine knob.
